Ornamental Features:
Bromeliad-family succulent with heavily-barbed purple leaves, which spread out from a central rosette. Blooms in spring on 4' spikes of yellow/orange flowers. *Plus .05 royalty
Habit and Growth Rate:
Forms a rosette, producing offsets, 3' by 3' at maturity, with short teeth lining the leaf margins. Produces 4' flower spikes with blooms in spring.
Landscape Value:
Most cold-tolerant of the Bromeliad family, can take temperatures to 20F, if protected. Perfect for dry climate/locations, can be used in rainy locations in a fast draining container.
Zones 8 to 11 (frost tolerant to about 30F, possibly colder, if protected)
Full Sun produces the best coloring. Drought tolerant, thrives on frequent watering during active growing season; keep plants on the dry side during cold weather.
